Miroirs de la transparence

violin, trombone & piano (1993)

To start with, a few pages of poetry by Fouad-el-Etr ; an imagined encounter of the words Love, Mirrors and Transparencies, setting off on a quest for the multiple meanings arising from the free association of these terms. Does Love imply that the other being loses all identity, presenting in reality a mere mirror ? Does every encounter end up as an interwinning of transparences in wich isolated imaginations are reflected ? Music, by virtue of this metaphor, constitutes a wonderful answer to these questions. Each of the three instruments possesses indescrible qualities, some of which are interconnected : the piano shares the high register with the violin, the low register with the trombone. The latter together with the violin, can dart about in micro-tonal fields. Such is the case for all the musical parameters that are distributed as the members of the trio see fit in their search for identity.

These enigmatic mirrors are dedicated to my dear friend Vanessa Damanet.
