Le Forum de la Création Musicale

Sous titre
une association en pleine mutation, fête ses 20 ans !

In 2002, the Wallonie Bruxelles Musique centre produced a double CD to highlight the vitality of the creative music sector in the FWB. Following this publication, the thirteen composers presented in the box set founded an association with the aim of encouraging exchanges between composers and performers, and aiming to become an interlocutor with the main bodies for the dissemination, documentation and promotion of contemporary music in the Wallonia-Brussels Communitý. For 20 years, this association was called the Composers' Forum.

Today the "Forum" is in every respect a professional federation. Constantly growing, in 2022 it has sixty-three effective members, including thirteen women, and it goes without saying that its original name no longer reflects the diversity of the personalities that structure it and the activities that are developed within it. This is why, in the year of its 20th anniversary, its members unanimously chose to rename it Forum de la Création Musicale.

This association seeks to extend its activities to all sectors concerned with music, whether written or electroacoustic music. Its role is also to make recommendations to national and international institutions with a view to improving the status of composers and to serve as an information and documentation centre for all those involved in music creation.

In order to provide itself with instruments for promotion and exchange with its various national and international partners, the FCM has created two biennials which alternate with each other, the Loop Festival and the Belgian Music Days.

Other activities include the publication of scores, the journal Carnets du Forum, the André Souris Prize for young composers, residencies and workshops for ensembles and composers, and conference concerts.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the FCM has launched the publication of five CD boxes to be released on the SOOND label, featuring the compositions of its first 50 members performed by most of the musicians who have defended them over the last two decades.

The Forum de la Création Musicale is a member of the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM) and of the European Composers and Songwriters Alliance (ECSA). It is supported by the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles, the Société Anonyme Belge d'Auteurs de Musique (Sabam) and the Conseil de la Musique de la Communauté française Wallonie-Bruxelles.
