Vertical Study
for solo piano - 2008 - ca 8'
This work was commissioned by the International Piano Contest Andre Dumortier (CIAD) as the compulsory work for the 2008 edition. It was premiered by the participants of that contest - amongst them the Korean pianist Herin Sun, first prize - on October 20th and 21st of that year.
As its title indicates, this piece - which is more an espressive study than a compulsory work - explores the potential of the vertical writing, trying to preserve its harmonic originality during the polyphonic "intrusions" within the musical discourse.
Vertical Study was written with the financial help of the Communauté française de Belgique / Wallonie Bruxelles (Direction Générale de la Culture, Service de la Musique).
